Your Security

We take your privacy and security very seriously, but please be aware that no computer system is 100% secure. Because of this, we cannot absolutely guarantee the security of your information provided over the internet and will not be responsible for this. There are appropriate security measures in place to prevent unauthorised access to the 'members only' area of the site, particularly with regard to the database where users details are stored. Our site contains links to other websites; we are not responsible for the content or the privacy practices employed by other sites.

The website invites you to contact us via e-mail, using the contact form. This e-mail correspondence is free format text and is not encrypted; therefore it is not a secure means of communication. Please do not send sensitive information via e-mail.

Our web servers automatically collect statistical information about your visit such as pages visited and which browsers are used to visit our site. None of this information is associated with you as an individual. We use these statistics to monitor the performance of our website, to check the popularity of certain pages, and to make the website easier to use. We need to set cookies on your computer to ensure you see the pages you have requested from our server. Our systems do not access them when you are not on our website, and your identity cannot be worked out from the contents of the cookie we set.

Your Privacy

We comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 in respect of any information we hold.

We collect personal information such as name and e-mail address when you knowingly provide it to us. We use your information in connection with your relationship with us. We may also use the information you provide to us to improve the content and appearance of our website. We may contact you from time to time using the contact details you have given us. This contact may be for administrative purposes or to notify you of a key event, such as the launch of a new 'Sense' site. We will not contact you for other promotional purposes unless you specifically indicated that you would like to receive such information.

You will notice that there are advertisements displayed on the website. These are used to alert you to updates on the other 'Sense' websites and also to notify you of products available in the World of Sense Shop. Registration with all the 'Sense' websites is completely free of charge. Wendy is currently paying for the upkeep of all the 'Sense' websites and list servers straight out of her pocket, and we hope that the Shop will soon be able to take on some of the financial burden.

We do not sell your data to other organisations and we are not interested in 'consumer profiling'. We rely on feedback we receive directly from our users in order to gauge what you think of our website content. If you love something, or hate it, please tell us so that we can give you the best we have to offer. Your personal information will never be supplied to anyone outside World of Sense or World of Sense Limited without first obtaining your consent, unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it. Also, if you post or send offensive or inappropriate content anywhere on or to the World of Sense website or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on World of Sense, and we consider such behaviour to be serious and/or repeated, we can use whatever information that is available to us about you to stop such behaviour. This may include informing relevant third parties such as your employer, school or e-mail provider about the content and your behaviour.

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (we charge £5 for information requests.) Please address requests to the Data Protection Officer, World of Sense, PO Box 908, Tring, HP23 6BZ.

If you are aged 16 or under, please obtain your parent/guardian's permission beforehand whenever you provide personal information to the website. Users without this consent are not allowed to provide us with personal information.

Registering and De-Registering

You may cancel your registration with the World of Sense website at any time, simply by using the online contact form and asking us to remove your account from our system. Please note that this will mean that you will be de-registered from all the 'Sense' websites, with the exception of the Shop and the e-mail lists, as these are handled by different servers. Please notify us if you would also like your Shop registration to be removed. If you have made any contributions to the website or Community, these will not be deleted from the systems or archives.

The e-mail lists work on an 'opt in' basis; please see the website menus for details of the discussion groups we have available. There are 'unsubscribe' instructions at the foot of every e-mail from our list servers. If you should need help with your subscription at any time, please forward the relevant e-mail(s) to us with your requirements and we will do our best to help.
