Whether you have a little bit of spare time or a lot, there are plenty of ways
in which you can join in the World of Sense Community...
- Forums Why not spend some time in the forums? If you have a particular topic of interest in mind, select the forum that most closely
matches it, or else use the General Discussion forum. You can read most of the forums without logging into the website, but you'll need to register and log on
in order to post something for everyone to read.
If you wish, you can register with the World of Sense website under your real name, but use a nickname in the forum
to post messages. Please read the Community Rules before you post, and if you want to play with the system before you post to a 'proper' forum, pop into the
Test Forum. Don't worry about making mistakes in the real forums though, as we are a friendly bunch and will be happy to help if you are having problems if
you are having problems getting used to the system. Feel free to suggest improvements!
If you are interested in moderating a forum, please let me know. For more information about using the forums, please see the separate FAQ entries.
- E-mail Lists If you can send an e-mail, you'll find it easy to use an e-mail list. Subscribers are given an e-mail address to use for sending
messages to each other. When you send a message to that address, a copy of your e-mail will be sent out to all the other subscribers on that discussion group.
For more information, please see the separate FAQ entries.
- 'Real World' Events Throughout the year, I run various camps and workshops relating to a few of the Sense websites. The most popular is the Educationsense
Gathering in September. The camps are small enough to remember everyone's names, but big enough to lose yourself if you want to. Keep an eye on the events
calendar and various Sense sites for details as the dates are announced, or join one of the events lists on the World of Sense e-mail list server to be
among the first to know!
The annual camps are generally held in the UK, but watch out for new venues as we will be going further afield very soon!
- Virtual Events These are fun. The most well known virtual event I run is the Virtual Educationsense Camp, which runs alongside the real camp. We
normally have people joining from all over the world and the reports I receive from participating families have me in hysterics. In 2003, we had a determined
eight-year-old who built a den under his kitchen table and slept there every night. A US-based family took advanced of the warmer climate and camped out on their
roof! I'm assured that they were quite safe up there!
Check the Events section of the portal, or watch the various Sense sites for details of virtual events as they are planned.
Alternatively, join the Update-Announce list on the World of Sense e-mail list server to keep up-to-date.
- Online Diaries Journals are great for two basic reasons:
- First, putting your thoughts in writing helps you to have some 'me time'. Give
yourself a chance to notice what happens to you as you go through life! When you write down a problem, you often find that you can look at it more objectively. ...And don't
let a funny situation get lost in the mists of time! Recalling a humorous moment can make you laugh just as much as you record it!
- The other good reason to keep a diary is because you can reflect on past entries and see what's changed, for the better or the worse. Keeping a diary can be like
writing a letter to your future self. For more help and tips on diary-writing in general, see the Spiritsense website.
Online diaries take on many forms. Record a specific situation for readers who might be going through something similar. They may leave a comment to help you, or thank you!
Alternatively, how about a themed diary? We have a few de-cluttering diaries, so why not join in, or work out a theme of your own? How about being determined about
saying something amusing every day? They do say that a happy outlook keeps you young inside! (I don't know who they are, but that's what I heard!>.
If you have already registerd with the website, everything is set up to start using your diary straight away!
News and Articles If you would like to contribute with a news item or article, please look at the Sense websites to find one most relevant to
your chosen topic. If you are registered, you can submit news and other articles to all of the Sense sites except for the portal. If you can find a Sense site to
match your topic, please let me know and we'll work something out. Once you have submitted an article it will be sent to me for approval, so please note that it won't
appear on the website immediately.
Please see the separate FAQ items for submission guidelines.
Visitors Book If you just don't know where to start, there's always the Visitors Book! Please leave an entry as I love to hear from everyone
using the website.
If you can support the World of Sense project in any way, please do! I'd be grateful if you could tell people where to find the websites by linking to the World of Sense
portal. Quite a few people have bought car stickers and t-shirts; thank you if you have done this too. If you need anything, please ask and I'll try to provide it on
one of the websites. If you would like some help participating in the World of Sense Community, don't hesitate in using the Contact form to mail me. I hope you come and
join in with us soon! |
